New article – My first business lesson: learning your time isn’t free
“You are a craftsman, and what you make is highly valuable. You need to price your products so that you are getting what you deserve for your work. And if someone doesn’t like your price, you say “that’s my price, and if you don’t buy it, someone else will””.
I’ve just published my second article on Medium, this time talking about one of my early mistakes in running a business, and how my woodwork teacher at the time changed my whole outlook on my time management. Read the article here, or click any of the images below.

Well done Conor! And a lovely beech bowl it still is, I served peanuts in it recently. The eggcups were a gift for my friend and she still has them (although I have one so I must have given her a gift of 5 instead of 6…oops!). Pricing your work is a very diffiuclt task but I still stand by the advice that you have to get paid….it isn’t a charity that you are running!
I’m delight that you are doing so well and wish you all the best for the future. Take care, Ann
Thanks Ann, I’m still surprised how clearly I remember that particular lesson, and it stands to me every day I sell one of my products. Glad the bowls and egg cups are getting used! Conor
